BERTScope Jitter Map Comparison StudyABSTRACT

As any signal integrity engineer can tell you, there is more than one way to measure jitter. Engineers are faced with a plethora of test instruments, including sampling oscilloscopes, real-time oscilloscopes, and bit error ratio testers (BERTs), all using their own methods to acquire data and measure jitter. The reality is that sometimes jitter answers from different instruments will be the same, and sometimes they will differ, depending on the conditions of the signal under test.

This paper is not a comparison of methodologies between different instrument types. Rather, its goal is to provide empirical data that demonstrates how the BERTScope Jitter Map jitter decomposition performs compared to the Agilent Infinium 86100C DCA-J Jitter Mode product over a range of signal conditions.
